How Do You Know If You’re Eating Too Much Sugar?

{Image Credit: iStock}

We add it to our coffee. It’s in our favorite, on-the-go breakfasts. We sprinkle it in baked goods and pastries. And it’s lurking deep within our favorite processed foods and drinks — like those delicious Frappuccinos! There’s no denying we really love sugar.

But while sugar makes life sweeter and summer all the more enjoyable, this excessive bad habit’s consumption rate is often swept under the radar. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports the average adult consumes about 22 teaspoons of sugar per day, while children consume on average an estimated 10 more. Though they don’t provide specific recommendations on how much we should consume a day, the American Heart Association suggests at least 9.5 teaspoons.

As one of the more dangerous substances we ingest on a daily basis, refined sugar is linked to a long list of ailments like obesity, hypertension, high blood pressure, acne, depression, mood swings and fatigue — just to name a few.

While slashing sugar from your diet can be tricky because it’s in literally everything, there’s no need for paranoia. Watch for dietary information on labels and choose more natural choices like stevia, honey, brown sugar or agave. But if you’re not feeling 100 percent or are experiencing oddities in your well-being, chances are you might be experiencing signs of over-consumption.

Skincare Saboteurs: How to Safeguard Your Skin This Season

{Image Credit: Getty Images}

It’s no secret that sunscreen is an essential must-have in the fight against melanoma, one of the most common skin cancers in the United States affecting 3.5 million each year.

But with the hustle of everyday life, we either skimp on application, forget to reapply or forgo it completely. While many of us use broad-spectrum sunscreens that protect against UVA and UVB rays to reduce our skin’s vulnerability to the sun, chemical filters found in sunscreens absorb UV rays and transform them into energy before they harm our skin.

What’s worse is these filters can often be unstable and break down if used incorrectly or in conjunction with other products that have active ingredients. To help maximize sun protection this spring and summer, we share five common saboteurs that might be undermining how your sunscreen works.

Influenster Unboxing Video for #BioreBakingSoda VoxBox

YT Video Cover

What a month it’s been! Between all the traveling back and forth before, during and after spring break, I finally got a chance to edit and upload the video I filmed at home for the Influenster Biore Baking Soda VoxBox. Seriously, what a month March has been. Thankfully, just a few more days and it’s over. This girl’s been super busy filming news stories all-month long for my journalism classes, so filming this little unboxing-review-thing (in addition to hanging out with friends, family and David Cook over the spring break) was a welcomed distraction. Today I got around to uploading it to YouTube, so check it out if you want to see me unbox some awesome items. I wish it could have been more exciting with confetti and wine, but alas, when you’re home with the folks, you get the drift.

Be sure to check out the review here (and of course, the grand unboxing video here). Again, it’s such a great product and I highly recommend it. Biore does not disappoint.

Have you tried any of the Bioré products? What were your thoughts? Share with me in the comments below.

I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. Thank you, very much Influenster! Follow them on their social networks at TwitterFacebookPinterestInstagramGoogle+, and YouTube, for updates and how you can be part of the Influenster community!

Clean Slate for #BioreBakingSoda: Review of Bioré Baking Soda VoxBox

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Last month, Influenster sent me the Bioré® Baking Soda VoxBox much to my surprise because I am a huge Biore fan! It was as if Influenster knew I wanted to try this product out for months so receiving the package in my mailbox felt like Christmas all over again. I have been a fan of the Japanese company since I was a teenager and love their products to pieces. As a consumer advocate who really values the Influenster community’s foundations based on forthright reviews, I love being able to share my thoughts and opinions on products that really matter to so many.
