‘It‘s Up to the Women’

When her husband assumed the presidency, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt wrote It’s Up to the Women, a book written during the height of the Great Depression brimming with advice to women of all ages, on every aspect of life. She became a champion of women’s rights and of civil rights, and today is honored with the foundation Eleanors Legacy which recruits, trains and supports pro-choice Democrat women to run for state and local office throughout New York.

It’s a foundation I love and first learned about from my very dear and amazingly kind-hearted friend Caileigh Scott, who is also a member of the organization lending her voice and support in making a difference. (She is a literal superhero, I love her! Go give her a follow on Instagram.) When you realize women make up 51% of the U.S. population but are only a mere 23% in Congress, you know it’s time for women to take a seat and make a difference. Why sit back and be passive about laws being decided by archaic, patriarchal models based on ideologies of cis-white men? It makes no sense. When women run and win, we all win and that’s the goal here with this super cute tee I bought from Shop Social Goods that helps fund Eleanor’s Legacy and its Conference Committee, which aids in the continuation of its creation and funding of a pipeline for women leaders up and down the ballot across the city. If you would like to get one, head to their shop! This is an off-white tee, super adorable and comfy, and printed by Prink Shop.

J’adore BITE Beauty: Review of #TheLipPencil VoxBox

From matte liquid lipsticks to sheer washes of color, lip products are perennial favorites for so many fashionistas because they can instantly change your look with minimal effort. While some brands focus on a full range of cosmetics, BITE Beauty is one that really stands on its own for doing one thing really well: lipstick.

Earlier this month, Influenster sent me the #TheLipPencil VoxBox from BITE Beauty and obviously, I was very excited. It’s lipstick for crying out loud! While I never experimented with their collection of lipsticks and pencils prior to receiving this package, it really piqued my interest. I love adding new lipsticks to my collection for a look that is bold, complementary to my mood and definitely one of a kind. (more…)

BOLO Issued for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”

May sound odd to say, but I’m all about cops. I love them! I have since I was a wee one. I was the kid who grew up watching the funny side of cops through films like Police AcademyThe Naked Gun, and—not proud to mention it (because I can quote certain scenes)–Kindergarten Cop. I was the little girl on her tricycle who once asked an officer of the law for a hug when I won a bicycle safety award from an elementary school event hosted by our municipality and the local police department. I oddly enough even have a best friend who is a law enforcement officer but that just worked out from sheer kismet, though looking back, maybe I have a type. Who knows! What I do know is that I love watching stories about police officers, whether it’s a television show like COPSCampus PD or The Wire; serious and gritty films like The DepartedEnd of Watch or Training Day, or buddy cop comedies like The Other Guys or Rush Hour. I just love them! I have an affection for law enforcement officers that knows no bounds. Take away my cop shows or movies, it would be a BOP–”breach of peace.”

When I first heard FOX was going to premiere a new show this fall called Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I grew very excited! For good reason too since the half-hour sitcom starring Saturday Night Live alum, Andy Samberg has a familiar and genuine offbeat approach similar to fan favorites like The Office, Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock. No surprise since some of the brains behind Brooklyn Nine-Nine are David Miner, Dan Goor and Michael Schur who have previously worked on those cleverly constructed workplace comedies. The series which premiered in September garnered 6.17 million viewers alone and has improved each week, resulting in a full season pick-up earlier this month from the network.

Miriam Pultro’s “Midsummer” Love

To film or not to film, that is the question. Recent years have shown that the talented bard William Shakespeare is a well-liked commodity in film, and actress and writer Miriam Pultro finds the answers to the popular verse while filming her modernized adaptation of William Shakespeare’s adored play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Midsummer.

The unique and bright spin on Shakespeare’s play adapted by Miriam Pultro is smart, humorous and clever. “We’ve changed the setting, not just the era,” Pultro says. “A lot of adaptations play with the era for the sake of freshness or art direction, but I don’t often see the time period reinterpreting the action. The story plays out as usual [and] changing the setting for Midsummer puts a really different spin on the entire story.”

CNN Announces New Morning Show with Chris Cuomo, Kate Bolduan and Michaela Pereira

As someone who has been a longtime fan of Chris Cuomo and watched him from his early beginnings on Good Morning America, I am extremely proud and thrilled to see him make the transition from ABC to CNN. Chris is an amazingly classy reporter who not only inspires, but gets the job done without ever compromising his passion and humility. He has been someone who has proven time and time again that integrity in journalism still exists. I have had the extreme honor and privilege of exchanging words with Chris, who I lovingly call “Mo” and wish him all the best, and continued success as he dives into the next chapter of his career. I will be eagerly watching and anticipating the new show!

I started watching Kate Bolduan early last year when she joined The Situation Room and immediately fell for her style. She’s extremely intelligent, eloquent, and charmingly fresh, proving she’s not just a pretty face on TV. She may just be 29, but she was born to anchor. Her chemistry with Wolf Blitzer is exciting to watch and definitely contagious as the two are in great harmony with one another. Come spring, I am extremely excited to see how she and Chris work their magic in the mornings! Kate has it all and is definitely a great role model for young, up and coming journalists as well. She is extremely passionate and dedicated to her work and seems extremely humble about it, which is incredibly admirable. When my best friend mentioned a few months ago that he attended high school with her, I couldn’t help but shriek like a 10 year-old fan-girl and embarrassingly enough resorted to badgering him and imagining how Kate and I would be BFFs, and of course he would be replaced. My mind still goes a little nuts because, honestly…what a small world. My BFF went to high school with Kate Bolduan and I get the opportunity to exchange words with my mentor, Chris Cuomo. What are the odds?

But all fan-girling aside, CNN made an amazing decision choosing Kate and pairing her up in the mornings with ‘Mo! I’m very much thrilled for both of them and wish them continued success. Without further adieu, I present to you, my latest article for The Hudsucker:

As if there wasn’t enough talk this week about morning show shuffles with Anderson Cooper possibly replacing Matt Lauer on The Today Show, CNN has officially announced in a press release from earlier this morning that Chris Cuomo and Kate Bolduan will co-host the network’s new morning show set to premiere this spring. In addition, Michaela Pereira of Los Angeles’KTLA Morning News has been tapped as news anchor for the program.

“I’ve been looking forward to this announcement since I first joined CNN,” said President of CNN Worldwide Jeff Zucker. “Chris, Kate and Michaela are a dynamic team that will give our viewers in America a new way to start their day. We were floored with excitement when we saw Chris and Kate together on screen, and by adding Michaela to the mix we feel we have something very special. We believe there is an opening to do news in the morning with a fresh, new voice.”

The Art of Acting with Rebecca Kopec

What is an actor? It’s a simple definition and very easily, one you can find in the dictionary but there’s a history behind it. It isn’t just a word to an actor. It’s an art form, rather a way of perceiving and articulating words found on paper to liberate the delicate emotions made up of raw passion and a brazen honesty within themselves. And all in order to make up for good storytelling.

One actor in particular with a great passion for the art of acting is, Rebecca Kopec. Hailing from a small family in New York, has a grounded attitude and a solid head on her shoulders. She’s a bubbly, no-nonsense, quick talking young woman and in the time we spoke, it’s evident that she’s a firm believer of working hard and waiting for her spotlight.

This month, Kopec can be seen in the cabaret production of My Story directed by Andrew Overcash, with all proceeds from the show going to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She’s amongst five other talented actors who are working hard to bring this production to life.

Andrew Overcash: Paying it forward with “My Story”

There are very few directors in the industry who realize their true motives to direct and envision. Directing is an art that needs to feed from a feeling and articulate a particular emotion filled with passion and a desire; a compassion for the canvas of life. Andrew Overcash is one of those directors who understands the need to deliver and give back.

Overcash put his current show together for one reason: his brother.

“My brother was diagnosed with cancer when I was in eighth grade and after a four year battle with ups and downs, he did pass. During that time, St. Jude did so much for my family and my brother and even after his passing, they continued to stay in contact with us and be true blessings. My brother, even after finding out he was going to pass, always cared for others and never made anyone feel sorry for him so, from his constant caring for others and the amazing love my family received from St. Jude, I decided it was time to give back,” he says.
